On Monday, as part of the Sixth Form Enrichment Program, we welcomed author and speaker, Richard Bevan to King’s Bruton.
He spoke to the Sixth Form about ways to help ‘find their happy’. Richard went through four techniques that our pupils could try to help them return to their base emotion of being happy. Firstly, pupils were asked to think about three things they are grateful for and why, helping to identify the feeling of gratitude and positivity. They were then asked to think about something that upset or angered them, and reflect on a lesson that they had learnt from that event; learning to let go of negative thought and feeling. Finally, Richard spoke about the importance of having a positive narrative that is in the background of their minds, to reinforce positivity during their days. Richard finished the session, by demonstrating to the pupils that by changing their physiology and posture that they could actively control how they felt in a given situation.
The talk was very well received by all the pupils, and allowed them to explore ways that they can increase positivity in their lives.
