CCF Outdoors and Adventure

On Friday 3rd November the CCF was thrilled to welcome Footsteps of Discovery to run our Christmas Term CCF Field Day.

The team from Footsteps of Discovery were outstanding. Over twenty five cadets in the 5th Form were taught skills of basic firelighting with torches, mobile phones, flint and steel strikers. The pupils loved seeing how these simple objects could be used to create fire. Following this basic fire lighting course the pupils did an advanced firelighting course where they learnt to create fire using chemical magnification and friction.

Alongside firelighting courses pupils learnt survival skills of building shelters, constructing cooking pot stands, using a bush knife (safely!), and carrying out ground to air signalling using beacons and air markers. This was followed up with an air dart target competition and a survival know how quiz. Throughout the whole day the pupils were gripped as they developed these skills which will prove to be incredibly useful for expeditions, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Ten Tors, travelling abroad and life beyond King's! An album of photos from the day can be seen below.
