King's held its annual Harvest Service of Thanksgiving on Wednesday in Chapel. The generosity shown by pupils and staff donating food was outstanding.

The idea of our Harvest Service is to look back across the year in thanks to God who has been such a generous provider, giving us so much food (and countless other things!) to enjoy. In particular, we are thankful to God for the outstanding meals we enjoy every day in the Dining Hall. The service saw us sing harvest themed hymns alongside focusing our thoughts around a passage from 1 Timothy in the Bible. In this passage we are reminded how building our lives on material wealth doesn’t lead to certainty and security. In fact, the passage told us that building your life on material wealth leads to uncertainty. The Bible and the world around us testifies to that truth: as good and great as money and material possessions are, they can vanish quickly and there are countless things they can’t give us. Yet, wonderfully, the passage reminded us to build our lives upon God, the generous provider - to trust in him for all we need. The more we see of his generous provision to us in our need, the more we will want to be generous to those around us who are in need. We will seek to help those who are hungry, lost and helpless. Thus, as a school, our food donations are going to the organisation CAP (Christians Against Poverty) in Yeovil who will see the food reach those in great need. I know that last year, the donated food made a huge difference to dozens of families.

At King’s we see day in day out, God’s generous provision towards us and our needs in so many ways. As Chaplain, it is my hope and prayer that in the light of that, we would continue to strive to be a community that generously gives to those around us in great need.
