On Monday, the U6^th Form Biologists headed down to Studland Bay to carry out fieldwork in the beautiful October sunshine, writes Kate Flavell, Head of Biology.

The pupils spent the morning investigating succession and carrying out transect work in the sand dunes that are prevalent at Studland.  The pupils became familiar with fieldwork equipment and were able to identify different species whilst determining stages of succession. After some fish and chips on the harbour wall at Swanage, we headed back to Studland for the afternoon task of designing and carrying out an A Level required practical. Pupils had to investigate how an environmental factor, such as soil pH, affected the distribution of a particular species. This work was carried out to a high standard and the U6^th Form Biologists obtained some valuable results which they have since written up. Overall, it was a very productive trip enjoyed in glorious sunshine! An album of photos from the day can be seen below.
