On Wednesday afternoon, in the beautiful sunshine, eighteen L6th Form pupils headed down to Cole Manor to carry out some river sampling field work, as part of their A Level Biology course.
Pupils sampled three different stretches of water, and carried out sampling work to see whether environmental factors affected the distribution of several freshwater species. Most pupils either used light intensity or water flow rate as their factor they were investigating.
All of the pupils managed to obtain solid sets of data which we can now analyse in lesson time. As well as the trip being important for their studies, the pupils also enjoyed cooling down in the streams and shade of the gardens after a few hot days of being indoors! We did also take time out to enjoy Cole Manor Tea Room’s finest cakes and even managed to sing Happy Birthday to L6th Form Biologist, Lottie. The pupils gained a lot from the afternoon, and good fun was had by all. A huge thank you to Cole Manor Tea Rooms for hosting us. An album of photos from the day can be viewed below.
