A magnificent Inter-House Music Festival...

On Tuesday afternoon, the annual Inter-House Music Festival took place, with Rounds 1 and 2 in the Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall, and Round 3 in the Memorial Hall. The sense of excitement and the build up to the competition over the past few weeks has been intense, with the Music School being overrun with Houses meeting at all available opportunities to prepare for this important event. It was super to have a full Recital Hall with performers, staff and parents watching live, and joined online with over 500 people viewing the livestream.

We were very fortunate to be able to welcome Mrs Yvonne Fawbert, previously Director of Music at Sherborne Preparatory School and Hazlegrove to adjudicate. This was a return visit for Mrs Fawbert as she last adjudicated the Festival in 2018.

As ever, the standard was high from start to finish. In Round 1, each House provided an impressive Junior and Senior Soloist. In Round 2 it never ceases to amaze me by the level of creativity and effort that goes into producing high-quality House Ensemble performances. Most importantly, this part of the competition is entirely pupil-led which makes it all the more impressive.

It was the first time since 2019 that Round 3, the House Song has taken place, and it was fantastic to have all pupils taking part in, and enjoying the singing competition. There was a fantastic and supportive atmosphere throughout the event. It was a hugely enjoyable and rewarding day which celebrated the diversity of musical talent here at King’s.

Well done and congratulations to all taking part, but particular congratulations go to Priory House who won the Music Festival overall. Finally our thanks go to Mrs Fawbert once again for giving up her time to adjudicate.
