At breaktime on Friday 26th April, the 5th Form Geography pupils left King’s and headed to Bristol city centre.
The purpose of the trip was twofold; firstly, we walked around the Temple Quarter regeneration project that is taking place next to Temple Meads Train Station. Here, we documented the changes that have taken place in the last 5 to 10 years and the improvements that are currently being made to the buildings, public transport and quality of the area. This is a case study for their GCSE paper, and it was great to see the Enterprise Zone and regeneration for ourselves.
We then walked along the river and headed in to Cabot Circus where the pupils carried out a pedestrian count at specific locations as well as asking members of the public a series of questions to find out how far they had travelled to get to Bristol and why they were visiting the city.
We will analyse the data back in the classroom, to determine the importance of Bristol as a city in the south west of the UK. Overall, it was a successful trip and despite the weather, the pupils obtained some good results.
