On Friday, the L6^th Form Geography pupils left King’s and headed to Callow Rock Quarry, just outside Cheddar.

Upon our arrival, we learnt about the environmental impact the quarry is having as well as thinking about what might happen to the quarry if production ceases. We then walked up to the top of Cheddar Gorge to discover the Geology of the area and how it has shaped the land. 

On Saturday, following our first night in Exford YHA, the pupils braved the weather and headed out for the day to the River Holford.  Pupils used the Bradshaw Model to investigate how several parameters vary downstream. Despite the torrential rain, the pupils enjoyed being out and about on Exmoor. That evening we visited the Valley of the Rocks to think about slope stability before heading back to Exford for a highly competitive quiz in the evening.

Sunday saw the pupils take on a tricky morning of mountain biking and finished the trip on Wimbleball Lake in some kayaks and stand up paddle boards. It was a brilliant trip and all of those that went on the trip have a clear idea of some of the processes acting on river and hillslopes. An album of photos from the trip can be seen below.
