We are very pleased to be telling you that the significant improvements that were made since our very first race at Goodwood have paid off!
We had a successful weekend at Castle Combe on Sunday 11th September, finishing in 15th place overall and an astounding 3rd place in the Kit Car class.
After a disappointing morning practice session, that was unfortunately cut short due to a technical issue, we worked flat out over our lunchbreak to find the cause of the fault and resolve it. After testing the drivetrain in our paddock bay, we discovered that there was an unusual amount of friction which was causing excess stress to be put on both the motor and batteries. Fortunately, we were able to resolve this with some simple set up changes, and we were comfortably able to make it to the race. Our driver for this weekend, Jack, produced a fantastic start, overtaking at least 5 cars in the first 30 metres of the race, before settling down for the one-hour endurance, the first 3 or 4 laps flew past with Jack achieving an average speed of 25mph around a hilly track. However, the lap times started to gradually fall in the second half of the race as temperatures rose and battery levels reduced, this led to a close finish as just a few hundred metres after crossing the finish line, our car was unable to make it up one of the hills.
This successful race has meant that we have now officially qualified for the Greenpower Challenge International Final on Sunday 9th October. We hope that you will be able to support us there, but before then we have one final heat which will be held at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, the location of the Top Gear Test Track.
