Life at King's Chaplaincy

After 22 months absence, it was uplifting to return for a senior church service in St Mary’s.

We are used to being socially distanced by year groups, to having our hands sanitised on entry, but singing whilst wearing face coverings (and for some of us, whilst wearing glasses that steamed up) was a novel experience. The Chaplain entertained and challenged us with his sermon, the Choir’s descant of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ was wonderful and overall, it was heartening for us all to be back in a building that plays such an important part in the life of our school community.

I am very much looking forward to the junior and senior Carol Services in St Mary’s that will round off this Christmas Term.

Ian Wilmshurst - Headmaster

It was wonderful to gather in St Mary’s in person again after 22 months of Chapel videos online. It’s easy to underappreciate the value of physically gathering together as a community to sing, pray, contemplate and be a community. My thanks to the Headmaster and Deputy Head for all they did to support this, and to Mr Marshfield and the Chapel Choir for helping our return to choral singing get off to such a great start.

Rev'd George Beverly - Chaplain
