Wellbeing Life at King's

Early on in the academic year, it is important for King’s to set the tone and culture for all the new pupils. Part of this involves our anti-bullying message.

Freda and Alex, two school prefects, explained in assembly that banter is only funny if it takes place between friends, between a group who trust each other. If banter hurts, then it is bullying. They encouraged pupils to speak up and talk to a friend or pupil mediator if it is happening.

There are 16 mediators across 7 Houses who have been trained recently by the Princess Diana Anti-Bullying Trust. As Amy commented, ‘It was really interesting to meet pupils from other schools and hear about their ideas to combat bullying’. The trust is a national organisation endorsed by Prince William and Prince Harry in their mother’s name. Their message is to encourage change in attitudes and behaviours for young people by young people.

Lily Tomlin was quoted by Freda in assembly and repeated amongst the pupils this week: "I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that unkindness. Then I realised I was that somebody."
