Charity Life at King's

Last academic year, King's raised over £3000 for charity. This amount was split between the two charities that pupils chose to support: Papyrus, which is a charity to prevent suicide in the young, and Somerset and Dorset Animal Rescue, who bring their dogs in for petting at King's every term.

We are pleased to report that on 13th September, Somerset and Dorset Rescue are bringing in their Shetland ponies and rescue dogs after lessons to help the new 3rd Form pupils relax after their first two weeks of school. It will be great to see Frankie again; a very friendly old bulldog, who has proved such a hit in the past! We also look forward to meeting the Shetland ponies for the first time!

The pupils have chosen two new charities this for this new academic year: Guide Dogs and the Breast Cancer Unit Appeal at Yeovil Hospital. We are hoping to raise enough money to buy and name a guide dog. Krissie from the Guide Dogs in Exeter is visiting with a guide dog to give a brief talk to the new pupils at the end of their third week at King’s on Friday 20th September. We look forward to hearing more about their important work and watching the dog’s obedience skills in action.

The inspiration behind raising money for the Breast Cancer Unit Appeal, came after Fathers’ Day this year, when a group of us ran in the Race for Life in Yeovil. It was there that we noticed the Breast Cancer Appeal and decided that would be the local charity we would sponsor along with the Guide Dogs. We will be thinking of some creative ways to raise money for these two important charities and look forward to all the fun we'll have along the way!
