On Tuesday, all of the 3rd Form pupils visited Bristol Zoo on a joint Biology and Art Trip.

Despite a cloudy start to the day, all the 3rd Form pupils were in lively spirits and they enjoyed their time amongst the animals. All the pupils had an education session with a Resident Zoologist, where they learnt about the rainforest ecosystem and the importance of conservation. During these sessions, they were able to handle Madagascan Hissing Cockroaches, Milk Snakes, Spiny Leaf Stick Insects and Pigmy Hedgehogs. The pupils also learnt about the true volume of deforestation that is occurring in some of the world’s largest rainforests – during the hour’s session, the equivalent of 1,800 football pitches had been destroyed on Earth.

As well as learning about the ecosystem, the pupils wandered around the zoo taking in the magnificent animals. For the Art element of the trip, pupils sketched and analysed the array of different textures and plumages that could be seen around the zoo in the many enclosures. There was a lot to see with everyone making the most of the visit; a fun day was had by all!
