This term has seen the A-Level pupils honing new skills to support them through the A-Level Design and Technology Product Design course.
The pupils have been learning about different timbers and their impact on the environment, whilst honing their manufacturing skills by constructing traditional timber joints by hand and learning to use power tools, including the biscuit jointer and domino jointer.
Pupils were in competition with each other to successfully put together flat-pack furniture correctly and be able to identify the different joints that were used in the process. More recently, theyhave been developing their Fusion 360 skills with the modelling of their own headphones, courtesy of Autodesk 360 tutorials, as can be seen in the photographs below. Currently they are working with different types of metals and cutting and shaping copper, before using the metal forge to Braze the pieces together.
The course so far, takes the pupils on a journey of experimentation and development of skills in preparation for the design and manufacture of a product for a client and purpose of their choosing in the coming months.
