A select group of Sixth Formers gathered for the first meeting of the Headmaster's Essay Society...
We were privileged to hear two wonderful presentations from two of our Upper Sixth pupils: the first by Thomas B on the topic of the 'Fall of Constantinople' and the second by Sebastian Y on the topic of the 'Creative and transitional composition of Monteverdi'. The pupils in the audience asked sensible and probing questions on both topics and clearly enjoyed learning about something new. The palpable passion and interest demonstrated by two of their peers in niche academic areas also provided a wonderful example of the rewards of scholarship.
We ended the night with a round of applause for those pupils who had just recently sent off their applications to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, several of whom were present, with the deadline having just passed at 6pm that day. This year we have had nine pupils applying for these ambitious and competitive university places. We wish them all the best as they continue their preparation for entrance tests and interviews over the coming weeks!
