On Wednesday 13th November, the Chapel Choir travelled to Chichester Cathedral to sing a service of Choral Evensong.
It was a return visit for the Chapel Choir having last performed there in the Christmas Term 2016. The Chapel Choir were once again warmly welcomed by the cathedral clergy and were treated to a much appreciated slice of cake and cup of tea between rehearsals. The music for the service included the Smith 5-part Preces and Responses, Psalm 69 (vv.1-14) to a chant by G. W. Chard, Walmisley’s setting of the Canticles in D minor and the anthem And I Saw a New Heaven with text from Revelation 21:1-4, as set to music by Sidney Lawton.
The Chapel Choir thoroughly enjoyed the generous acoustic in the building. The choir stalls at Chichester are always a bit of a challenge as they are so small and with 35 singers, the stalls were full to capacity! Particular thanks and congratulations to the delightful quartet who performed the quartet in the Magnificat at the words ‘He remembering his mercy’ (Amelia - Soprano, Violet - Alto, Joseph - Tenor, Aidan - Bass). It was super to have parents, OBs, members of the public and even the widow of a previous Headmaster of King’s supporting in the congregation.
Well done to the Chapel Choir on another impressive Choral Evensong.
