Life at King's

It was very good to welcome the pupils and staff back to King’s...

It was probably predictable that we would start this new academic year with a heatwave, after much of the summer holidays was seemingly washed out. The first Assembly was packed as usual, given that the School is at capacity, and we can only just fit everyone into the Memorial Hall, while the L6th Form boys and girls looked very smart in their new suits.

The summer holidays were busy for our Estates Team with resurfacing of Abbey tennis courts, replacement windows in Arion, refurbished changing rooms, a refigured Library and the ongoing move of the Health Centre into Old House. The work to move the Health Centre has gone very well but we have decided to delay opening until half-term to ensure that everything is in place. The new Health Centre will provide the School with better and larger health facilities, including rooms for counselling and physiotherapy. The current Health Centre will then be converted back to a domestic property for rent.

Congratulations must go to Mr Hawley (Head of Rugby) and Mrs Seal (Head of Chemistry) for their respective weddings in the summer, and to Mr (Head of Music Technology) and Mrs Higgs for the arrival of their son. The new staff seem to have settled in very well, and I wish all new pupils and staff a happy and rewarding school career here at King’s. I was grateful to our sports coaches who organised successful pre-season training for our 1st Hockey and Rugby squads and it looks like we will have exciting seasons ahead.

I wish everyone in the King’s school community a rewarding, happy and enjoyable academic year 2023-24.
