Safer Internet Day at King's Bruton - The Winning Poster...
Following on from our Safer Internet Day poster competition, the winning Tutor Group are Miss Russell’s 3rd Form Priory Tutor Group. The girls enjoyed afternoon tea At The Chapel as their prize.
King’s Bruton recognised Safer Internet Day this year by starting conversations with the pupils and (importantly) giving the pupils a voice. At the same time, we asked them to research eSafety and engaged them in a competition.
Safer Internet Day is held every February in over 170 different countries. The goal of Safer Internet Day is to call on people across the world to work together to make the internet a safer and better place for all, but especially for young people. In the UK, the UK Safer Internet Centre run a campaign, especially for the day, which aims to start a national conversation about using technology safely and positively.
The three topics we engaged the pupils with were:
- What is age appropriate online.
- What is the value of free speech.
- Who do they see as positive role models.
Whilst these are difficult things to talk about at times, we did encourage the pupils to be free to speak their minds.
We also set the tutor groups a competition for the week. This was for them to design a poster that would be used around the School promoting safe internet use. It had to be unique to King’s, and the winning tutor group will have theirs used in classrooms/houses.
The prize offered was Coffee/Hot Chocolate/Cake for the whole tutor group (with the Tutor) at a local café.
