A brilliant idea from our EDI Committee to brighten up our Dining Room...

Last term, the EDI Committee decided that they wanted to create a display which really showed of the diversity of pupils at King’s Bruton. We decided that the Dining Room corridor windows would be perfect for this as it would provide colour in both the Dining Hall and the corridor. Having spoken to Mr Cole in the Art Department, it was suggested that this be in the form of silhouettes that we could then have printed.

The EDI Committee wanted these silhouettes to be in the 10 colours of diversity. These are red for Addiction, green for Mental Health Awareness, blue for Child Abuse, yellow for Suicide Prevention, black for Black Lives Matter, white for Anti-Violence, orange for ADHD Awareness, pink for Breast Cancer, rainbow for LGBTQ+ and purple for International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Mrs Warren was able to take the photos of pupils, and we started with music and sport, so that 10 pupils were selected who played instruments, and 10 EDI Committee members posed for sports photos. Mr Cole then produced the posters and an external company printed them for us. These proved really popular so we then expanded the photos to Departments and Houses.

The EDI Committee also wanted international pupils to be represented, as we have many pupils of different nationalities in the School, so decided to photograph each of them for a silhouette. We are all delighted with the final results and they really do brighten up the Dining Hall. An enormous thank you to Mr Cole and Mrs Warren for their editing of the pictures, and to the EDI Committee for coming up with this fantastic idea.
