On Thursday 16th January the 4th Form artists had workshops all day to broaden their experience and knowledge as part of the GCSE course.
Bristol based illustrator and printmaker Victoria Willmott was invited in and she started the day off with some Picasso/Chagall inspired lino printing, which whetted the appetite of the pupils. There was a wide array of facial designs created, both individually and collaboratively and the pupils seemed to really enjoy the processes involved.
In the afternoon the department took on a different feel as the inks were replaced with 3-D materials and wire sculptures of heads were created inspired by Alexander Calder and Joseph Cornell. Although the pupils found this testing, they persevered and produced some impressive outcomes. Both workshops were created to link into the pupils current theme of portraiture and they clearly showed their creativity using a diverse range of skills and media.
