An Extremely Wet Weekend for the DofE Silver Groups But They Still Had A Good Time

DofE Outdoors and Adventure

Last weekend 5th Form pupils took part in the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award walking.

We were due to camp out on Saturday night, but unfortunately, we had to cancel the camping due to the heavy rain forecast, which turned out to be the right decision!

We met at 8:30am on Sunday morning and set off at about 9:00am. It was a very wet start and not one person complained and spirits were high. We walked up Godminster Lane which was more like a river walk, then headed over to Godminster and down towards Cole. At one point we could easily have been on a battlefields tour with all of the mud!

As we walked on, spirits remained high and morale was good and we were not deterred by the occasional navigational misjudgement! The mileage was just under 10 miles around Bruton. Each group was accompanied by a teacher and myself and Tom Loveless went between the groups which all seemed to work well as we got to see each group at work.

I think I speak for everyone, but we are very excited about this year's DofE groups. They have proved to work well together, they are diligent and good fun! Bring on Exmoor!
