On Thursday 17th January the 4th Form art pupils had a textiles workshop by Canadian born textile artist Sandra Meech.

Sandra has been working in the arts industry for over forty five years and is a member of Bruton Arts Society. She encouraged pupils to work in a variety of different ways and with some unusual materials, on their current theme Enchanted Seas. The sewing machines were roaring away throughout the morning as the pupils worked tirelessly to finish their work. It was an invaluable experience to have Sandra come along and not only inspire the pupils with her work but to share her knowledge and ideas.

In the afternoon, the same pupils headed to Weymouth Sea Life centre to draw as part of their recording element for their coursework. They more or less had the whole centre to themselves and were privileged to watch feeding times and have knowledge imparted to them by the enthusiastic staff. Pupils completed some excellent work which will be a starting point for their clay responses to the project. They are an exciting group and I anticipate some strong work to follow.
