The Inter-House Music Festival was outstanding and an incredibly enjoyable event, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.
The Festival started in the afternoon with the junior soloists, some excellent singing from Katie and Amy, and although Joe put in a superb performance the winner was Felix from New House. Felix performed a Chopin Nocturne with great poise and sensitivity. The Senior Solo Round was a real battle with some of our top music scholars fighting it out. Tom from Blackford House won the round with an excellent performance on the marimba. The Ensemble Round was always going to be a tight competition with Arion House and New House having perhaps the stand out groups, although Blackford House's performance of The Yellow Submarine was brilliant. In the end New House won this round, I know the adjudicator found it very hard to decide between these three ensembles.
The evening's house song performances were truly memorable; I personally thought Old House were the best boys' house and indeed they would have won the competition with 49/50 if it weren't for Priory House who were outstanding. Priory House scored maximum marks, (which has never happened before); led by Rebecca (U6th Form), in places they were singing in six parts! Most of the girls are members of the School Choir and it showed; this was the best performance I've heard at King's. When all the points were added up from all the rounds the overall winning house was New House. New House were one point ahead of Arion House, the winning girls' house. Old House and Priory House came in joint 3rd place. My congratulations to all involved for a very impressive Inter-House Music Festival.
