Academic Success 5th Form

King’s Bruton enjoyed an excellent set of GCSE results to ensure that 2019, our 500th Anniversary year, was a wonderful celebration of achievement at GCSE, BTEC and A Level!

The GCSEs were the first year with results for all subjects offering the new more challenging GCSEs and new grading system. Despite these changes, the number of pupils achieving a grade 4 or above (old grade C) has increased. It was impressive that 40 of the new tougher top grade 9s were awarded. 39.7% of GCSE grades were 9-7 (A*-A) and 92.8% of grades were 9-4 (A*-C). Nine pupils achieved at least eight grades 9, 8 or 7 (Constance Pollard- 9998888887, Harriet Tuson- 9999887777, Adam Barrett James- 9998887776, Laurie Alderson- 988888776, Katie Wootton- 999888877, Julia Hassler- 9999888886, Amy Hurst- 9998877766, Juliette Webb- 9888888776, Natalie Wilmshurst- 8888877776) and special mention must go to German twins Emily and Ziska, who were at King’s for only one year, in Year 11, but achieved  99988777 and 99888876 respectively.

Headmaster, Ian Wilmshurst, commented, “These are excellent results and I am delighted that we finish this busy academic year with such impressive GCSE, BTEC and A Level results. The staff have prepared the pupils very well and there is so much achievement across the board. It is only right to celebrate the high grades but lots of pupils have done really well to gain lower grades, despite finding academic work quite a challenge at times this year. They should all be very proud and I look forward to welcoming this bright group of pupils in to the Sixth Form.”
