Life at King's EAL

The year of the Rooster is upon us, writes Nicola Checketts, Head of English as and Additional Language.

‘You will receive an invitation to dinner’. Thus predicted the Fortune Cookie message I received from the vast quantity of traditional Fortune Cookies distributed by Robert (U6th Form Lyon House) at break time on Wednesday to celebrate Chinese New Year. The dinner for our Chinese pupils took place in the JCR and consisted of some twenty delicacies of traditional cuisine ordered from a local takeaway. The meal was accompanied by dancing and a traditional Chinese card game, ‘Sanguosha’, to wind down on a full stomach. The evening was a wonderful way for the King’s Chinese community to kick off their New Year! Special thanks go to Robert and Ed for all their organization. Happy Chinese New Year to all!
