BTEC Hospitality pupils delivered a magnificent Culinary Showcase...
This week our U6th Form pupils delivered a superb Showcase Culinary event to Hospitality professionals, staff and governors. This year it was a journey around European cuisine. This was the pupils' final event of their BTEC accreditation, to showcase two years of hard work in the kitchen gaining skills and to put into practice excellent customer service and planning an event.
All pupils were tasked with applying for their job roles in the event - the kitchen team, front of house, creative, operations and beverages. Once allocated a role, they worked in small teams to plan a menu, pair alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and set up the room to make it suitable for around 25 guests. They also had help from L6th Form pupils to enable them to deliver effectively and smoothly. The menu was carefully curated from scratch and included combinations of food cooked during our study on European cuisine which forms Unit 10 of their BTEC. Each dish was carefully planned by the pupils from the plate to the garnish, each drink was tried and tested, mixed and garnished prior to the event.
The U6th Form pupils have not only achieved an amazingly successful event, they have learnt about teamwork, flexibility, thinking on their feet and leadership, all skills which will all take them into their life beyond King's. They should be extremely proud of their achievement, as I am, and they deserve every success in the future!
