The King's Bruton & Hazlegrove Joint Concert was a joyful celebration of music...

Hazlegrove musicians and staff thoroughly enjoyed the warm welcome extended to them by King’s pupils and staff at the Joint Concert last Friday. Kindly accompanied by Mr Marshfield and Mr Higgs, rehearsals were full of energy and enthusiasm, before the Hazlegrove pupils enjoyed a legendary King’s supper amongst some Old Hazlegrovians in the Dining Hall. What an experience it was to sing and play instruments in the wonderful setting of the Hauser and Wirth Recital Hall. Our Chapel Choir welcomed the opportunity to add this new environment to their list of venues, making the most of the wonderful acoustics in a more intimate setting, whilst our Year 8 Band continued the hallowed tradition of Hazlegrove rock and pop groups, with their very accomplished version of Coldplay’s Yellow. Our pupils loved showing off their musical skills to a packed audience, with the joint Wind Band and Choir a real highlight. Mrs Sclater and her team loved every minute. Thank you to the King’s Bruton Music Department for a wonderful evening.

Last Friday evening saw the Hazlegrove and King’s Joint Concert take place in the Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall. It was a fantastic showcase of the quality and diversity of music across the Foundation at both King’s and Hazlegrove. The concert featured joint performances from the Military Band and Choir. A particular highlight was hearing the massed choirs performing the first movement from John Rutter’s cycle of spirituals ‘Joshua fit the battle of Jericho’ with gusto! The concert also included performances from smaller ensembles from both King’s and Hazlegrove and made the evening a joyful celebration of music with a large and supportive audience. You could really sense the enjoyment had by all the pupils involved.

Well done and congratulations to all the performers and thank you to the staff from both King’s and Hazlegrove who supported.
