Lower 6^th Form Parents Higher Education and Careers Information Evening...

In as little as 9 months’ time, pupils in the current Lower 6^th will start applying for universities and apprenticeships, indeed, a small number could be doing so in just 5 months! This term, therefore, marks a crucial time of information and exploration for the pupils, but advice, decision making and support is very much something to be done with pupils, parents and the School all involved. Timed to coincide with the start of term boarders’ drop off, Mr Daws (Deputy Head - 6^th Form) and Mrs Goffe (Apprenticeships Adviser) spoke to parents of Lower 6^th Form pupils to help inform them of the opportunities and processes ahead, to help this partnership work well and to help parents know what should be happening and when.

There was a huge amount to cover in what is a constantly changing scene of opportunities, with pupils having many options to look at before finding their best fit going forward.

In packed hour, the talk covered the current context of university admissions and progression (particularly in the UK), the different pathways that pupils could follow, from UK to universities and conservatoires, to global universities, degree apprenticeships, gap years and careers. The various application timescales, processes and decision-making guidance was also covered, as was some suggestions as to how pupils could enhance their applications.

Whether watching in person, or on the livestream, there was a lot of information to absorb, and the 6^th Form team will welcome the opportunity to follow this up with parent and pupil meetings in the terms ahead.
