An excellent talk on Apprenticeships for the L6th Form pupils...
From 2024, pupils will be able to apply for apprenticeships through UCAS alongside an undergraduate degree application, the decision clearly elevates the apprenticeship pathway which, to some, offers a much more suitable route to a career. Hot off the back of Apprenticeship Week and UCAS’s announcement, it was time to offer Lower 6th Form pupils further insight into apprenticeships.
On 20th February, King’s Bruton Apprenticeship Advisor, Marie Goffe, explained the apprenticeship pathway, outlining how they work and explaining the levels of apprenticeships available. Pupils were also given specific advice regarding the roles available and the application process. Mrs Goffe also shared the experiences of some of her previous Business and Economics pupils who are now enjoying very successful careers at the likes of E&Y, JP Morgan, Thales, BBC and the Royal Airforce after completing degree apprenticeships. Mrs Goffe also talked through the application journeys of OBs James Newcombe (Cushman and Wakefield), Luli Loveridge (PwC) and Ed Weekes (Numatic Engineering) who successfully gained apprenticeship places after completing A Levels in 2022.
Just under 10% of pupils who start a degree course at university will actually leave without a degree, and many of these pupils will have paid up to £27,000 in tuition fees. Apprenticeships now offer an incredibly attractive, high quality alternative to university and a pathway that will better suit some of our pupils.
There are now more than 826 job roles across 150 industries that are on offer to apprentices, and, as of September 2023, roles that include ‘Doctor’. Finally, pupils were offered the chance to sign up to attend the National Apprenticeship Fair on Wednesday 1st March.
