A wonderfully festive Winter Concert...
On Friday evening, the Winter Concert took place in the Hauser & Wirth Recital Hall. The Concert opened by setting a festive scene with the Orchestra performing Selections from How The Grinch Stole Christmas, this was followed by the Military Band performing an exciting version of The Lord of the Dance followed by Highland Cathedral with Hector (Year 8, Hazlegrove) kindly joining to play the bagpipes - the first time the bagpipes have been heard at King’s in a concert in the past 13 years!
The Cello Ensemble then played Frosty the Snowman followed by the School Choir keeping festive spirit high with Sleigh Ride followed by Rhythm of Life from the musical Sweet Charity. The Wind Quintet played Country Dance (No. 1) by Beethoven and the Guitar Ensemble played two contemporary songs both of which were well-received by the audience. The Chapel Choir performed two pieces, both of which they had performed at a service of Choral Evensong at Tewkesbury Abbey last month. The Piano Trio were impressive in their performance of Frank Bridge’s Hornpipe from Miniatures. The Chamber Choir performed Sing Gently by Eric Whitacre and a beautiful arrangement of the well-known carol In the Bleak Midwinter by Philip Stopford with good attention to diction and blend of voices. The concert concluded with the Big Band playing an uplifting Christmas Medley. There were many highlights during the evening, and all the pupils performed very well indeed. It was wonderful for them to have an appreciative audience. There were also pre-concert drinks and festive mince pies served by some of the Sixth Form BTEC Hospitality pupils. Well done and congratulations to all involved!
