Success for our talented U16 Girls' Indoor Hockey Team...
Last Wednesday was a fantastic day for King’s Bruton Hockey as the U16 girls qualified for the National Indoor Hockey Finals, which is an outstanding achievement. Having performed so well at the county round, where they defeated Queen’s College, Taunton School and Millfield to become county champions, the team went into the Regional Finals with confidence.
However, with only one team qualifying for the National Finals, the team knew that only victory would do, and so they approached the tournament knowing they would have to be at their best. They started the day brightly with a 3-0 victory versus Cheltenham College and then followed up with a comfortable 9-1 victory versus Exeter, which was a great whole squad performance. Knowing that first place in the group was almost certainly secured, they did what was required in the final group game to win 4-2 versus Bristol Grammar School.
This set up a Semi-Final versus Clifton College and the team certainly saved their best performances until last. A controlled performance in the semi-final saw them win 2-0 to qualify for the final versus Dean Close, who also won their matches comfortably earlier in the day. However, King’s were outstanding in the Final, as they played with confidence, control and maturity to win 5-2 and spark well deserved celebrations. The team was a true credit to King’s Bruton the whole day, both in the way they played, but also how they carried themselves away from the court. They can now look forward to the National Finals being played in January.
Best of luck to this talented group also, who play Clifton College in the Tier 1 National Outdoor Quarter Final next week.
