Silver DofE Qualifying Expedition to Brecon Beacons, 24th to 27th June 2022...
28 members of the 5th Form embarked on their 3 day / 2 night qualifying expedition for Silver DofE. Day one was very tough for all. With so many overgrown footpaths making navigation very tricky, the challenge was made even tougher with considerable rainfall and drizzle. Pupils, however, worked hard in their teams to come through it, and enjoyed a much smoother day 2, during which the weather and route were much more forgiving. The route took them to the summit of Lord Hereford's Knob at 680m, with outstanding views across the Beacons. In spite of, for many, the onset of blisters, day 3 was similarly successful as all groups made it to the finish at Hay-on-Wye by early to mid-afternoon, with time for a quick stroll amongst the bookshops and cafés. Having overcome all manner of challenges, pupils should feel immensely proud of their achievements. The trip will hopefully, spur a good number onto Gold, which Mr Thompson will enthusiastically take on next year.
Mr Loveless would like to thank Mr Thompson, Miss Flavell, Miss Checketts and the Assessor, David Hamlin (Somerset DofE) for their contribution to the trip.
