The Woodwind Concert was a real treat, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.
There were many excellent soloists but it’s the ensembles which I particularly enjoyed. The Wind Quintet was possibly the best I’ve heard them, both the ensemble and intonation was excellent and they captured the mood of the Rumba brilliantly. It was lovely to see so many flautists in the Flute Ensemble, the tone quality was excellent and it was led very confidently by Holly. The Clarinet Ensemble performed a great arrangement of Hungarian Dance No.5 by Brahms, particularly great performances from both Calum and Hetta. The Saxophone Ensemble brought the concert to an end with Herbie Hancock’s Cantaloupe Island, the group captured the grove very confidently - another brilliant performance. My congratulations to all involved. An album of photos from the concert can be seen below.
