The 3rd Form Concert was outstanding, it was very pleasing to hear how far these young musicians have progressed since September, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.
The concert opened with Holly performing Godard’s Allegretto; Holly plays with great control and beauty, she has a delightful tone and excellent intonation. Tom really impressed me with his detailed attention to dynamics and phrasing, he played with great musicianship and maturity. I very much enjoyed Lulu's performance too, at times she really made the cello “sing” in her performance of Smetana’s Vitava. It’s a little difficult to write about the solo singing because so many of the performance showed excellence, many of the top registers were of 5th Form standard rather than 3rd Form. However, the concert was brought to an end by Gabriella, Freya and Amelia singing an arrangement of Riptide; this was truly outstanding, the girls had put this together themselves, some of the three part passages were exquisite. My congratulations to everyone involved. An album of photos from the concert can be seen below alongside some audio extracts.
