I really enjoyed the Joint concert, Hazlegrove have some very talented young musicians, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.
I particularly enjoyed the joint items that were performed by pupils from both schools during the evening. The Joint Orchestra opened with Tchaikovsky’s March Slave. Both the percussion and brass sections “blasted away” the front few rows of the audience, I must say I enjoyed seeing Aidan's hair thrown back every time he played the cymbals. The Joint Choir was huge, they sang an arrangement of ABBA’s Mamma Mia, the diction was clear and there was detailed attention to the dynamics. The concert finished with the Joint Wind Band performing music from Mary Poppins - simply stunning. This was a polished performance, the trombones were superb, it was a great way to finish a brilliant concert, my congratulations to all involved. A video of the concert alongside an album of photos can be seen below.
