The New Musicians’ Concert was delightful, writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.
This concert is perhaps the most daunting concert these young pupils face - their first performance at King’s. This was the largest New Musician’s Concert that we’ve held so far and there was a great range of styles and genres. It would be unfair to highlight individuals, however I did very much enjoy the vocalists; there was an incredible range, from Handel to Beyonce, many of the sopranos had a beautiful top register which I know Mr Marshfield is going to enjoy working with over the coming months.
Alongside this, the evening was the first New Musician’s Concert to boast three cellists and a Guqin (a traditional Chinese instrument). We were also treated to some very nice woodwind, ranging from blues through to to a delightful performance of Bach's Allegro.
A selection of photos and audio recordings from the evening can be seen below. My congratulations to all those who took part, I look forward to hearing you sing and play again later this year!
