The 'A Night at the Opera' concert was a great success, so many of our musicians were on top from - writes David Gorodi, Director of Music.
Yasmine Arnold was outstanding, she sung Handel’s Ombra Mai Fu; there is one section which she started really quietly, she controlled a beautiful crescendo and then soared into the upper register, without doubt the best we’ve heard from her so far. Freddie Goggs sung Santa Lucia, if this is how he sounds in the 3rd Form imagine what he will sound like in the 6th Form! Hebe Young’s performance was the best I’ve heard from her, it was the top register which sounded so effortless that really impressed me. Clara Bracey also gave her best performance so far singing Brahms’s Dein Blaues Auge; Clara is an excellent bassoonist, I didn’t realise that she could sing at this level too! Kiara Jones gave a faultless performance of Puccini’s O Mio Babbino Caro, once again it was the top register which was particularly impressive. I really enjoyed Charlotte Mansergh’s playful performance of Mozart’s Un Moto di Giola, she really captured the character of the piece. My congratulations to everyone involved, not least Mr Angel and Mrs Little whose expert teaching has made all of this possible. An album of photos and some audio recordings from the evening can be seen below.
