The event opened with a brilliant arrangement of “The Teddy Bear’s Pic-nic” performed by a double wind quintet, a really quirky and comical arrangement that we all enjoyed. The other ensemble performance which closed the concert was from the Flute Ensemble who performed an arrangement of Scherzo from Mendelssohn’s Midsummers Night's Dream. This is a very complex arrangement which the group pulled of brilliantly. As to the soloists it’s really difficult to choose just a few highlights but here we go: Lucia Pretor-Pinney performed the first movement from Mozart’s Concerto in D, she captured the classical style really well, a well-articulated performance. Alex Baxter performed Spanish Love Song, although Alex is only in the 3rd Form he played this with great maturity and a real sense of rhythm, he certainly has a bright future ahead of him. Eleanor Little performed the 1st Movement from Vivaldi’s concerto in A minor; she has a beautiful quality of tone and her phrasing was excellent as was her attention to detailed articulation. My congratulations to all!
