The final week of The Easter Term has concluded with amazing sunny Spring weather, which is an excellent way to round-off this successful term.
We went into the first lockdown two years ago, and our lives have been turned upside down in many ways, so it has been very positive these past weeks, to resume all the events and resume all the rhythm of King’s life.
I enjoyed presenting colours and awards at the Final Assembly in the Memorial Hall, whilst also resurrecting our School Song, which we have not sung as a school for too long now. Part of my Headmaster’s role is to sign off the paperwork for all our trips, and it is an indication of how extensive and varied a King’s education is, that I have a pile of trip documentation on my desk as so many trips have been restarted.
On a separate and important note, King’s is likely to have over 370 pupils next September. This will be the largest number of pupils ever in the School’s 503-year history. It is wonderful that we are so popular, but, I have explained to the Governors, at last Friday’s full Governors' Board Meeting, that King’s is at capacity and that there should not be any plans to get bigger. We value our relatively small size, and we are successful, both educationally and financially at this size, and so future plans should be aimed to continue to improve and develop the School without further pupil growth.
We are a very busy school, and we are now back into that hectic rhythm of assemblies, Church, lessons, sport, music, drama, DofE and CCF. We all deserve a relaxing Easter holiday and the pupils and staff should sit back and feel a real sense of pride in what they have achieved this term.
