The Chapel Choir sang Choral Evensong at Chichester Cathedral...
On Wednesday 16th March, the Chapel Choir travelled to Chichester Cathedral to sing a service of Choral Evensong. The Chapel Choir last performed at Chichester Cathedral in the Christmas Term 2019, and it was super to make a return visit. The Chapel Choir were once again warmly welcomed by the Cathedral staff. The music for the service included Responses by Byrd, Psalm 84 set to a chant by Bairstow. The canticles were sung to Sumsion's setting in F with Amelia singing the soprano solo in the Magnificat and Thomas singing the solo in the Nunc Dimittis. The anthem was Purcell's setting of Thou knowest, Lord, the secrets of our hearts, which was originally composed for performance at the funeral of Queen Mary in 1695.
The Chapel Choir enjoyed the fabulous acoustic in the building and hearing the organ accompaniment. My congratulations go to all those involved. We were fortunate enough to have several parents, grandparents and other supporters in the congregation who were also extremely complimentary about the singing of the Chapel Choir.
The next Cathedral visit for the Chapel Choir will be a little closer to home, when they will sing a service of Choral Evensong at Wells Cathedral on Friday 6th May at 5.15pm.
