This term, the challenge of Cross-Country has offered a wonderful opportunity to explore the countryside surrounding King’s Bruton.
Until the second lockdown, we were pushing boundaries and developing new courses. “Junior Creech Extended”, “Pasture 5”, and the accidentally discovered “Togo 10” (which will become the official King’s 10K run, after Toby and Jago took a wrong turning!) have offered new routes and longer runs for the pupils.
We have managed to improve our elite runners and encourage the “Development Squad” to push themselves to their limits. During lockdown we have developed training regimes based around the “Fintan Circuit” which is a high intensity training (HIT) Session developed by the Royal Marines. Add to that, hill sessions from Mr Hambleton, as well as interval sessions from Mr Mitra, that are all designed to develop the pupils strength and stamina. We have also managed one run every week, on three routes (based on ability) in pairs, and at 2 minute intervals (to fit in with the restrictions on exercise).
All in all, Cross Country is thriving at King’s and the pupils (both boys and girls) have taken part with enthusiasm and real enjoyment, in what are difficult times. Their enthusiasm and energy a continual credit to their resilience.

@ksbxcountry version of the Fintan Circuit (Royal Marines) not quite as intense but still hard.
The pupils did really well (so did the staff).@KingsBruton @KSB500th pic.twitter.com/4jfmuW658q
