Tennis

The boys’ tennis teams had a successful Saturday afternoon as both the 1^st and 2^nd teams were victorious against Wells Cathedral School with the pairings of Tommy and Hugo and Jeevan and Harry being named players of their respective matches.

On the girls’ side, there were impressive victories for the 2^nd and 3^rd teams versus Bryanston, with Freya and Anna earning the player of the match award. Equally the juniors were on fine form as both the U15A and U15B teams won after some excellent team performances.

Athletics

Saturday afternoon saw the athletes compete in the Somerset Schools’ Championships with notable podium finishes coming from Matilda, Rory and Robert. However, performance of the day was Oliver who finished second in the senior boys 100m after running a very impressive 11.17 seconds. From Saturdays performances, three pupils have been selected to represent Somerset at the South West meet this Saturday in Exeter. 

Rory in hurdles, Robert in high jump. Rory and Robert in the inter boys, and Ollie in senior boys 100m.

Finally the cricketers had another busy week. Playing a team down versus Sherborne midweek, there were victories for the 1^st, 2^nd, Junior A and Junior B teams with Issa, Luke and Jamie  producing standout performances. On Saturday, there were further wins for the 2^nd XI and U15A teams versus Clayesmore with Adam and Toby both scoring 50s and Joel bowling 4-3 off 3 overs. For the Junior As, Milo scored 55 runs, whilst there were two wickets apiece for Nathan, Algie and Hugo.

A week of National Cup action as well as block fixtures against Sherborne School and Clayesmore School following the half term break!

Tuesday saw the Junior U15A Boys in action against King’s College Taunton in their ESCA South National Cup T20 Semi-Final. Losing the toss and batting first, King’s lost a couple of quick wickets to the experienced King’s College seamers. However, the middle order looked to rotate strike well and punish the bad ball with George making his way to a fine 38 not out. King’s Bruton posted 130-6 off their 20 overs. Harry took a wicket with the second ball of the innings as King’s Bruton looked to take control early in the second innings. Unfortunately, despite an excellent spell of bowling from Nathan, King’s College got over the line with a  number of wickets in hand. A great achievement to reach the later stages of a National Competition and key areas to work on for the second half of the term for these boys.

On Wednesday it was the turn of the Junior U15A Girls who would host Taunton School in the School Sports Magazine U15 T20 Round 3. With Ella and Aurelia unavailable, it would give more girls the opportunity to represent the School this year. A determined batting performance was unfortunately not enough to see King’s through to the next round, however, the girls can be extremely proud of their performances this year.

Thursday saw all six Boys’ teams in action against Sherborne School. The 1^st XI managed to pull the game back with the ball after a number of missed opportunities to dismiss their strong opening partnership. James and Ronnie led the way with the ball picking up 4 wickets each. Ethan (37), Ben (38 not out) and Frost (40) ensured that King’s got over the line to win by 8 wickets. 2^nd XI captain Toby scored a well worked 50 to help the 2^nd XI to a 7 wicket victory whilst the 3^rd XI fell just 7 runs short of Sherborne’s total. The Junior U15As continued their good form to complete a 5 wicket win which also followed up with a victory for the Junior U15Bs. The U15Cs enjoyed a closely contested game with King’s falling just short with the ball.

Saturday saw a busy afternoon of Cricket against Clayesmore School. The 1^st XI won the toss and elected to bat. Ethan (38) and Ben (51) put on a strong second wicket partnership before Felix (48) accelerated the back end of the innings as King’s posted 165 for 5 off their 35 overs. Unfortunately, King’s were unable to limit the high number of extras as Clayesmore fell over the line in the 32^nd over. Oliver, the pick of the King’s bowlers. The 2^nd XI recorded an impressive victory with Captain Toby and Adam both reaching their Half Centuries. King’s bowled well and won the game comfortable. The Junior U15As also recorded their second victory of the week in a tight contest. Milo again in the runs with a well worked Half Century with wickets shared between the bowling attack. King’s Bruton Junior U15Bs found themselves just short against a strong Clayesmore A Team with Lucy scoring an impressive 40 with the bat. Unfortunately, a number of missed fielding opportunities would cost the side in the second innings. The Junior U15Cs impressed again but were unable to find that clinical edge as they lost out to Clayesmore’s U15Bs.
