Monday 9^th November, saw 57 pupils from the 5^th and Sixth Forms taking part in the annual Engineering Challenge Day at King's Bruton.

Despite the necessity of running the day in two separate bubbles as a result of Covid-19, pupils tackled the challenges with considerable enthusiasm and great humour.

Teams were tasked with carrying out research, calculations and preliminary tests to produce rockets that were fired by a build-up of air pressure. Rockets needed to meet 3 challenges:

• greatest peak height reached
• largest horizontal range
• the deployment of a parachute system to allow a rocket to return to Earth as slowly and safely as possible 

Designs were incredibly varied and very successful. Indeed, during testing, I believe some rockets reached at least 100m high!  All pupils should be congratulated for excellent team work.
