The 1st XI vs Marylebone Cricket Club...
On Tuesday, the 1st XI hosted the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in their annual showcase fixture. The MCC won the toss and elected to bat first. Early wickets from the pace attack of Ethan (5 overs, 2 maidens, 2 wickets for 24 runs), Max (7 overs, 2 maidens, 2 wickets for 18 runs) and Oliver (7 overs, 1 maiden, 2 wickets for 20 runs) meant that the MCC found themselves 97 for 7 at lunch. Captain, Ronnie and James managed to clinch the final few wickets remaining cheaply after lunch as the MCC posted 103 all out off 29.5 overs.
King’s Bruton found themselves having to re-build after the loss of early wickets. Ronnie led from the front, supported well by Felix as the scoreboard began to start ticking over. Oliver (4th Form) scoring a very well worked 62 not out to see King’s over the line inside 35 overs. King’s eventually winning by 2 wickets.
A huge thank you to the Grounds Staff, Catering Team and Officials for ensuring that the game was able to go ahead and we look forward to hosting the MCC again next year!
