Sport roundup of the Christmas term so far...

It has been another busy and successful half term of sport with fixtures taking place across the major sports of rugby and hockey, but also football, badminton, netball and indoor hockey.

All the photographs and social media posts can be viewed on our Media Page.

Hockey

On the hockey pitch, it has been fantastic to be able to field four senior teams again, as a large number of senior girls are still opting to play hockey. The 4th XI are enjoying a fantastic season as they have recorded some pleasing victories versus Kingswood, Bryanston and King’s College, Taunton. Equally, the 1st XI are enjoying a good season where they are through to R3 of the National Cup where they will face Blundell’s for a place in the Last 16. Congratulations must also go to the seven pupils selected for the Bath Buccs Talent Academy, which is an excellent achievement considering the very large number of trialists.

Rugby

Our rugby teams have started the season strongly with both the 1st XV and U14A teams remaining undefeated at this stage of term, whilst the U16A team is also playing some exhilarating rugby. The 1st XV secured a very pleasing victory early in the term versus Monkton Combe, with the U16A team overcoming difficult opposition in both Clayesmore and King’s College, Taunton. Furthermore, the 1st XV are through to R4 of the National Vase competition and they look forward to hosting King’s Gloucester after half term in what should be a thriller. More pleasing still is the large number of boys still involved in the rugby programme and wanting to represent the School on the rugby field.

Netball

It was also wonderful to see the U16 netball team finish third in the county round of the National Schools’ championships, as they played some excellent netball to compete so well with much bigger schools and to secure a well deserved third place finish.

Indoor Hockey

A special mention must also go to the four indoor hockey teams (U16 and U18 boys and girls) who all went undefeated in their Regional Preliminary Rounds to win and therefore qualify for the West Finals. This is a fantastic achievement, considering the schools the teams had to defeat in order to get there.

As ever, none of the above would be possible without the energy, enthusiasm and commitment shown by all staff involved, as well as the outstanding support from parents on the sidelines. I very much look forward to what is to come after half term.
