On Monday, as part of the Sixth Form Enrichment Program, we welcomed Old Brutonian, Tom Heal back to King’s for the afternoon.

Whilst currently serving with the Royal Marines, Tom successfully summited Mount Everest on the 21st May last year as part of an expedition run by the charity, 65 Degrees North.  As part of the expedition, Tom helped to raise £35,000 for the charity, who seek to help in the rehabilitation of wounded, injured or sick service personnel and veterans through the ‘spirit of adventure’.

Tom talked to the Sixth Form pupils about how a positive mental attitude and perseverance can lead to you achieving your goals. Tom described being faced with the possibility of failure at 8300m, when his oxygen mask stopped working and how his determination and desire to succeed, ensured that he still made it to the summit.

It was an inspiring talk and left the pupils in no doubt that they should aim high and be ambitious with their goals.
