Just before half term, I asked the three girls’ houses if they would join in an initiative that I had read about - to recycle bras in support of the charity Against Breast Cancer.
This charity takes unwanted and unloved bras and not only prevents them from going into landfill, but gives them a new lease of life in countries such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where bras remain too expensive to produce locally. Did you know that in Africa, a girl is 60% less likely to be raped if she is wearing a bra? A scary statistic, I think you’ll agree. For every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund research and whilst we did not collect a tonne, it has certainly raised awareness and the bras collected will be sent to Africa, which will make a difference to many.
