On Thursday 7th November, 8 pupils from King’s participated in the annual clay pigeon competition, the Millfield Challenge, at Mendip Shooting Ground.
The two teams took part in two rounds; the individual competition and the team “Flush”. Both teams took on the Flush first which requires the team to work together to shoot 40 clays. Despite being their first experience of this, both teams did well achieving 25/40 and 20/40. Following this, the teams moved down to the woods to participate in the individual rounds; 7 stands and a total of 40 clays. With varying difficulties, each stand imitated difference shooting environments and situations.
The best score of the day was from Oliver, achieving 28/40 in the Individual Round. Overall, I was really impressed with their sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout, despite some challenging moments. It was great to see the two teams from King’s participating in such a large competition and enjoying the day down on the Mendips.
Huge thanks to Millfield School for arranging such an excellent competition and to Mendip Shooting Ground for the practice and hosting the event.
