A huge sense of achievement for our Ten Tors teams, as they complete the 35 mile challenge...

After months of training and preparation, the members of Team Crown and Team Dolphin left Bruton on Friday 28^th April and headed to Dartmoor for the Ten Tors Challenge. On arrival they were met by Mr Barrow and Mr Charlton who had erected the tents at the campsite and had evening meal preparations well under way. The teams were able to soak up the festival like atmosphere and conduct final adjustments to their equipment.

At 0700hrs on Saturday morning the canons fired and nearly two and a half thousand competitors set off in all directions across Dartmoor. With a little nervousness and a lot of excitement Crown and Dolphin set off in different directions to circumnavigate 35 miles of Dartmoor’s finest moorland. Whilst walking, they had to be completely self-sufficient, carrying all their own food, water, tents and cooking equipment. Their packs weighing nearly 20kg!

They had to navigate to ten different Tors on their respective routes, some straightforward, others a little more challenging to reach. At the end of an arduous day, the teams had to wild camp, where they refuelled and prepared for the final day.

On Sunday morning, the teams got themselves up at 0500hrs, ate some breakfast, packed their kit and were ready to start walking at 0600hrs. With all the aches, pains and blisters from the previous day, they headed northwards across the moor towards the finish line.

The teams arrived at the finish line wearing their Team Crown and Team Dolphin t-shirts carrying the King’s Bruton CCF standards. They were filled with emotion and an enormous sense of achievement having completed an arduous mental and physical challenge with flying colours, displaying the true King’s Bruton spirit!
