Friday saw the School Choir, Chapel Choir and Chamber Choir travel to the Theatre at Hazlegrove for the annual King’s and Hazlegrove Joint Choral Concert.
The evening began with the Hazlegrove Year 5’s joining forces with the massed choirs to perform Zadok Rules! complete with many familiar melodies including the National Anthem and Rule Britannia as well as the famous Coronation Anthem Zadok the Priest. The School Choir were in fine form and performed Lullaby of Broadway along with Joyful, joyful with an excellent soulful solo from Imogen. The Chapel Choir sang Dyson’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in D however, it wasn’t quite the same without the wonderful acoustic at Bristol Cathedral that the Choir had enjoyed last Sunday afternoon! The Chamber Choir gave an exquisite performance of Stanford’s part song ‘The Blue Bird’ with the soprano solo provided by Ella. The Chamber Choir also performed a charming set of three songs titled ‘Love’s Philosophy’ by L’Estrange with great attention to diction and dynamics. The evening concluded with the massed choirs joining together to sing Panis Angelicus by Franck. Well done to all involved for a superb evening of choral music.
